About the Artist
The brilliant colors of the stained glass in the windows attracted my attention while Christmas shopping for my mom and I purchased my first suncatcher. A few years later I signed up for a class at Nazareth Stained Glass, Nazareth, PA, intending to just make a few gifts. I discovered a talent for the craft. After moving to Virginia in 1986, I continued learning and making stained glass. Tiffany lamp and advanced classes honed my skills with design, color and technique. Working at home allowed me to raise our four sons and local crafts shows provided funds to make more creations. I have been designing stained glass gifts and custom work in Poquoson for the past 25 years and began teaching beginning and intermediate stained glass classes in 1991.
The lack of stained glass supplies available in this area planted a seed to one day have a retail and wholesale stained glass shop. Sensing a call to art and business in 1997, Shining Light Stained Glass was born with a desire to glorify God in our work. Our locally made SonCatchers™ are window hangings that come with scripture verses to encourage and inspire.
In 2006 an opportunity came to move the studio from home to a retail shop in Poquoson, VA. We have recently expanded our gift shop and more than doubled our studio and supplies space.
Our future plans include teaching fused glass classes and expanding our supplies and SonCatcher™ gift lines. My vision also is to provide stained glass manufacturing jobs in America, based on the tenet “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; show him how to fish and you feed him (and his family) for a lifetime.”
